Contract Negotiations: 11/20/2024
Takeaways from 11/20/2024 meeting:
• HACCEA presented a counter proposal using a side-by-side comparison of the following reports: 1) HACCEA, 2) HACC Admin, and 3) The Fact Finder’s Report.
• This format makes it clear where the agreements are, the near agreements are, and the disagreements are. The format also clarifies what has been revised.
• HACC Admin still has not addressed what they found objectionable in the Fact Finder’s Report.
• HACC Admin asked only one question about HACCEA’s proposal.
• The next meeting is in one month due to “the Thanksgiving holiday” and one of HACC Admin’s representatives “going on vacation for two weeks.” We, as faculty, however, will still be here diligently working…without raises.
• HACC Admin stated they “might be able” to get a counter-proposal done by the next meeting on December 18th. This is despite the fact HACC Admin now has two special assistants to the President, one of whom is devoted entirely to addressing union needs and issues. Given the lack of progress despite the dedication of HACC's financial support, we are dismayed at what appears to be a significant waste of college resources that could be better devoted to supporting our students.
Dear colleagues,
HACCEA presented a clear counter-proposal that showed a visually clear representation of the various drafts and areas of agreement, near agreement, and disagreement. The two sides are closer than they were previously thanks to the Fact Finder’s Report.
HACC Admin continues to avoid explaining, despite two meetings now, what they found objectionable about the Fact Finder’s Report. They also asked only one clarifying question about HACCEA’s current counter-proposal.
Let us be clear.
The union busting stall tactics are in stark contrast to Dr. Ski’s very public statements to elected officials and community members that “they [HACC administration] want to get a contract done” and “we are close.” Those pubic statements and the reality of the actual negotiation meetings do not align.
We ask for the elected officials, community members, and students to question Dr. Ski the next time he talks about “wanting to get a contract done.” Words are simply words when actions do not follow.
The next meeting is 12/18/2024.
In solidarity,
